No. The app never asks for one. You only need one for Complete, because a licence has to belong to someone.

Screenshots are recognised on your own computer. Captures can be kept in local history, which you can turn off. Piper and the voices of Windows or macOS read offline. Cloud voices and online AI send text to your chosen provider; Complete uses the Speakybara service. A picture of your screen only goes out if you switch on Explanations may look at your screen and use an online AI.

It reads pixels, not documents, so it works wherever something is on your screen: a scanned PDF, an error dialog, a remote desktop, a paused video. It does not care which program drew it.

No. A screen reader is NVDA or Narrator: software that describes a whole operating system to blind users. Speakybara is a read-aloud tool — you pick a piece of the screen and that gets read.
